The division levies and processes all real estate and personal property taxes. The Treasury Office is no longer providing vehicle registration quotes. This decision was made due to the discrepancies in the amount quoted (due to additional accessories) as well as, the issue with timeliness of returning calls (at the beginning of the month and end of the month), during times of increased number of registrations (beginning of the seasons - recreational vehicles) and during tax payment due dates.
Registration renewals may also be processed online at Rapid Renewal
The City’s tax year runs from July 1st through June 30th. Tax bills are mailed semi-annually with payments due on September 15th and March 15th. Interest begins to accrue the day after the due date on any unpaid balance for that period.
Liens are placed on any real estate account that has a balance remaining come mid-June. Property owners then have 18 months from the lien recording date to pay the balance in full before foreclosure occurs.
Payments may be made by cash, check or debit/credit cards.* Check and credit card payments can be mailed to the Treasurer’s Office at 27 Pine St., Lewiston ME 04240.
Duplicate tax bills are now available for printing at the following links (files may take a few minutes to download because of their size):
