Viewing tables in ArcMap

Viewing the attributes of a table is a common task when working with your data in ArcMap. When viewing tables in ArcMap, all the layer and field properties that you have defined will be honored in the Table window . Tables will also respect any definition queries or joins that you have defined.

Note:

Spaces and certain characters are not supported in field names. Special characters include hyphens such as in x-coordinate and y-coordinate; parentheses; brackets; and symbols such as $, %, and #. This applies to non-geodatabase data as well.

List By Source

  1. To view the attribute table for a feature layer, right-click the layer in the ArcMap table of contents and click Open Attribute Table .
  2. To view a nonspatial table, change the view of the table of contents: click the List By Source button , right-click the table, then click Open .

Tip:

You can press CTRL+T to open the attribute table of the selected layer or table in the table of contents. Pressing CTRL and double-clicking a layer or table in the table of contents also opens the table. To see a complete list of shortcuts, see Keyboard shortcuts for working with tables.
